Creative Process: Adapt/Synthesize/Create: This exploratory workshop teaches how to adapt movement to fit within a guided parameter or set limitation. Teaching how to reconfigure movement to meet changing needs- which could be the performance site, the abilities of the dancers, or to cater to a changing audience interests, age, or cultural values and practices without losing the essence of the original work. With an opportunity for emerging artists to look at their movement under a microscope and then transfer it out to larger picture, this workshop will use collaboration, offer opportunities to work in small groups and culminate in sharing of material with feedback.
Off Your Feet: This Bartenieff Fundamentals inspired contemporary class explores how we can develop dynamically aligned bodies: strong-agile-and articulate through the break down of Developmental Patterns into complex sequences. Expect to roll, dive, jump, swing and turn inside, upside down and backwards all off your feet.
Bartenieff Ballet: In this class students will practice, observe and reflect on how Ballet training can utilize basic principles of somatic practices, particularly the practice of Bartenieff Fundamentals through Developmental Patterns. Upon completion of this workshop students will be able to: 1) Identify where developmental patterns already exist in classical ballet training 2) Utilize basic concepts of Bartenieff Fundamentals through out a ballet class 3) Develop an understanding of how a somatic perspective in ballet training can enliven and support ballet education.
